ANONYMITY: THAT OLD CHESTNUT →
V nice piece from Nicola Piggott on the Hot Dinners site about restaurant critics and anonymity, a subject that has had its fair share of airing over the years. And the conclusion is, as ever, non-anonymous critics say it doesn’t matter a jot, anonymous critics (moi) maintain it’s of vital importance.
It will always be the same. And it ain’t just the dead tree lot who are at it, jumping queues and upgrading tables. I happen to know that quite a lot of our online chums felt compelled to announce their impending reservations in Heston’s outrageously oversubscribed Dinner by the simple expedient of tweeting it to the head chef (@APWChef, if you’re interested).
That’s life, innit. There’s always preference and privilege. And until I’m outed, a moment I’ve expected every day for the past eleven years, I’ll continue to squat here on the moral high ground.
